In 2012 The Journey assisted Gauteng Tourism Authority in devising a visitor information services strategy. The strategy proposed various practical programs for improving visitor information services in Gauteng and The Journey subsequently won the open tender for implementing these. Deliverables include piloting a province-wide industry membership system, improving physical VIC infrastructures and scoping and securing an e-toolkit for managing VIS
The Visitor Information Services Strategy is a 5-point framework for ensuring seamless flow of tourist information to potential visitors, the main aium being to keep extenral visitors in the province longer and to entice local residents to travel in their own backyard, thus stimulting the economy and job creation. This will entail the development of a membership system for private businesses to log their products onto the GTA database and distributing such information via Visitor Information Centres (VICs), intermediaries and online. We work with three pilot regions (Sedibeng, West Rand and Tshwane) to implement various aspects of the strategy
