The project entailed thorough fielwork and substantial stakeholder engagement. A four-pronged development approach was adopted, namely 1. Make Places (connecting spaces and improving infrastructure), 2. Improve Products (enhancing tourism experiences and improving market access), 3. Promote Good Practices (building local supply chains and sustainable tourism practices) and 4. Build Capacity (skills development and organisational support)
Proposals include transportation improvements (road and pedestrian), urban design and landscaping, development of informal trading areas and town squesres, dhow buidling and fish market improvements for tourism, sustainable waste management and water provision and development of cultural heritage.
