We assessed tourism opportunities related to potential improvement projects in Kandy and Galle, Sri Lanka as part of the WB SCDP project. A tourism vision was cast over the SCDP in these cities and prioritised SCDP projects were assessed, recommendations were made regarding opportunities for tourism enhancements and projects were ranked in respect of their potential value addition and readiness to be implemented

Kandy city and Galle coast are two important and favourite tourism areas in Sri Lanka. The World Bank SCDP is primarily geared at urban infrastructure improvement; however the Bank and Sri Lanka Government realise the importance of tourism to the country's economic development and appointed The Journey to cast a tourism 'lens' over proposed urban improvement projects. This resulted in the identification of various tourism angles over SCDP projects e.g. development of a conference centre, visitor reception centre, hotel and restaurant spaces, etc. in Kandy and improvement of tourism services and infastructures along Galle coastline
